PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Theresa A. Guertin has spent her entire career advocating on behalf of policyholders on issues involving all lines of coverage, focusing on giving her clients the most current and practical perspective of the risk management issues they encounter. Theresa has extensive experience in developing and rewriting insurance procurement language to meet the changing demands of the insurance and construction industries and in making certain clients procure airtight contractual risk transfer provisions in their policies. She also frequently works with contractor and broker clients to identify potential deficiencies in policies before they're issued and assists in the negotiation of more favorable terms at policy renewal.

Theresa also has an active litigation practice, representing clients in claims for coverage in a diverse array of matters, including property damage and bodily injury related to mold and asbestos, directors & officers and professional liability claims, employment disputes and construction defects.

For eight consecutive years, Theresa has been recognized by Super Lawyers for her insurance coverage practice. She is an active speaker, frequently presenting on coverage issues and litigation strategies. Theresa also serves on the Executive Board of the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity, whose mission is to make Connecticut a more attractive place for women and attorneys of color to practice law.

Theresa co-authors the renowned Thomson Reuters treatise Insurance Coverage of Construction Disputes with SDV Partner Tracy Alan Saxe. The treatise is a leading resource within construction and insurance law and provides a comprehensive examination of how courts have interpreted commercial general liability policy provisions.

Theresa is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and serves as co-chair of its Risk Transfer group. She is also actively involved with the firm’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Philanthropic Committees. She resides in Waterbury, Connecticut with her husband and son.
