Upcoming Seminar: Identifying, Avoiding, Mitigating, and Insuring Environmental Risk in Construction

After a successful run in New York City, SDV and our co-sponsors are bringing this half-day seminar to Chicago on  Tuesday, October 6 , from 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm, at The Union League Club of Chicago, 65 West Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL. Update – due to circumstances beyond our control, this seminar is being rescheduled for the first quarter of 2016. Keep an eye out on the blog for updates.

Environmental issues have been plaguing real estate and development projects for years, resulting in delays, cost overruns, third party exposures, claims, and often times, litigation. As new development is focused on the inner city, waterfront properties, and other historic industrial sites, this trend is not going to decrease anytime soon. Properties built in the late 1960’s and 70’s are now obsolete and the resultant renovation or demolition is uncovering hazardous materials and environmental challenges. New materials not addressed in the 1980’s and 90’s are now becoming regulated. Day-to-day contracting practices may yield environmental hazards; and these exposures are not restricted to environmental contractors. GCs, CMs, Trades, and Owners all have exposure. These challenges can be overcome, converted to opportunities, and claims can be avoided.

Please join our panel of seasoned experts (including SDV’s own Tracy Alan Saxe and Cristina Lopez) as we explore how these issues can be identified and properly addressed during due diligence, pre-construction, and contracting. Understand the insurance policies available to cover environmental risks and how to maximize your insurance recovery. Learn how the risks can be mitigated and claims avoided. Lastly, know how to prepare and defend an environmental claim or litigation if one arises.
